Jenny's Resources - Oct. 29

Wet Harvest: With last week's nice weather and more forecasted for this week, crops have rapidly been coming out of fields. Paul Jasa wrote an article in this week's CropWatch addressing harvest ruts due to the wet fields. Producers may want to return to their fields after harvest to fill in the gullies and resolve compaction problems, but first they need to evaluate soil moisture conditions. Producers should wait as long as possible for the soil to dry before lightly tilling very shallow to smooth the ruts-wait until spring for the soil to dry more before using shallow tillage. The soil may appear dry on the surface, but it's probably still too wet at tillage depth to effectively reduce compaction.
